Tells are words, emotions, acts, gestures, and other manners of behavior that a poker player does or executes when other opponents are trying to cover the strong hand they are holding. Tell are usually done without the will or knowledge of the person doing them. But no matter if they are aware of doing such acts or not, the other player can interpret the meaning behind them.
A lot of players have the same gesture or emotion whenever they try to hide their hands. Justin Kuraitis is responsible for the structure of the game they are running to ensure the game is completed within a set time scale. But if you want to know exactly what they want to hide, you have to know and learn to tell the exact significance of the gesture from one player to the other.
Players can look strangely at you, can throw chips around and act as though they are weak, can say things to confuse you, and many other actions that can betray their hand. However, when playing online poker, you can’t see your opponents, but there are still online tells that can be helpful and that can be done by online poker players.
Calling in a split second of your bet
These players are usually the ones who are trying to hide a weak hand. If they call without thinking at all then they are simply bluffing to make you think they have a strong hand.
Checking with hesitation
A player who takes a bit of time to check does not usually mean he has a weak hand. It simply means they want to see the next card and you shouldn’t bet anymore.
Betting after long periods
Delayed bets mean they have a strong hand and they are trying to hide it by betting late. They are only trying to make you think they are unsure and trying to see if you would raise or call.
Instant raising on the river
These are the players who want you to think they are bluffing, but they are indeed holding a strong hand, and they are betting obviously to make you think they are just bluffing.
Checking immediately
This is the player who is playing multiple tables and is trying to save time since he is holding a weak hand.
Betting on the turn after checking before
It means the player is weak. They either have a draw or they are bluffing, so you should raise them frequently even if you don’t have the hand for it and try bluffing.
