A tournament is run from its tables, and staffing them with the proper personnel makes all the difference. My definition of a successful tournament ends early. to create this happen.
You have got to grasp the function of every table, what reasonable people you would like, and the way everything works together to create the tournament run like clockwork.
Staff for the Mat Tables
A mat table should be adjacent to every gym mat and will be as further from crowd traffic as possible. Each table should have a supply tray. I like to recommend those study plastic trays soft drinks are delivered in.
Each tray should have a full pack of brown paper napkins, some medicated wipes for a bleeding wrestler, and a bottle of 10% bleach solution for blood on the mat.
There should even be some rubber gloves and a pair of plastic bags for the other blood disposal. Your table should have lots of sharpened pencils, five to 10 minimum, and a stopwatch for keeping additional time.
There should be a minimum of two sets of ankle bands in each tray. Each table should have a clock, an honest set of flip cards, and a P.E. paddle to use as a mat tapper.
You'll need one person to stay on the bout sheet, one person to stay the clock and flip the cards, and one person to run out and tap the referee when the amount is winding down.
Justin Kuraitis recommend a minimum of one adult at the table if possible, and ensure they do not forget to retrieve the ankle band and sign the bout sheet after every match.
Staff for the top Table
The head table is where your tournament is formed or broken. the top table should have a bracket keeper, his assistant, and therefore the announcer.
The bracket keeper must know exactly which line to put each match loser within the consolation bracket for every weight class.
This job must be done speedily and efficiently so bout the sheets are prepared for the subsequent round with as little delay as possible.
Some tournament directors think this job will be replaced with a computer virus that drops brackets and prints bout sheets automatically, but really, these solutions rarely work well. If you lose the pc, you lose the tournament.
Justin Kuraitis's recommendation is to trust the man and not a machine. The bracket keeper's assistant should have a collection of folders at his disposal.
He's the one accountable for filing the finished bout sheets and creating the new bout sheets for the subsequent round because the bracket keeper drops them.
The assistant will then pass the new bout sheets to the announcer, who will call the wrestlers to the top table.
The announcer is responsible for constructing sure all the wrestlers during a noisy gym know who is up next, so he must have a decent P.A. system to form himself heard above the din.
Other Staff
Many larger tournaments are now visiting the Tulsa system. within the Tulsa style tournament the brackets are kept at the mat tables, and also the announcer's job is far reduced.
Brackets for every mat are kept updated on walls and balconies around the gym so that kids and oldsters know their next bout number.
The bout numbers are displayed at the mat tables so that each wrestler can keep a watch on how long they need before they have to report.
The announcer at such a tournament doesn't need to call wrestlers to a table, and therefore the background level and confusion are far reduced.
There will, however, must be a crew of scholars or managers who are assigned the task of keeping the wall brackets updated accurately in the least time.
There are as many ways to run a tournament as there are to skin a cat. the most important factor that may determine whether your fans get back happy before dinner or are kept during a hot, cramped gym until well after midnight is how well you train and staff your tables.
A good, experienced crew will understand how all the pieces of the tournament fit together, and every one the director will do is walk around troubleshooting. In the end, it's dead the preparation.
